The School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture at
Auburn University invites applications for two tenure-track
Assistant Professor positions in Architecture with teaching
responsibilities centered in design studio and either or both of
specialized topic areas indicated below, commencing August
2024.
APLA has a 116-year history of educating architects, interior
architects, landscape architects and planners. The school
contributes to the profession and to communities both locally and
globally through creative work. APLA is comprised of four allied
disciplines: Architecture, Interior Architecture, Environmental
Design, and Landscape Architecture, and offers both Bachelor's and
Master's degree options. The School resides in the College of
Architecture, Design and Construction along with the School of
Industrial and Graphic Design and the McWhorter School of Building
Science.The Architecture program seeks candidates who are
interested in contributing to and extending the school's strong
tradition of teaching and learning through conceptualization,
visualization, fabrication, and construction. Candidates should
have a strong interest in teaching either of the following:Position
1: Beginning Design
(foundation studios that provide basic preparation for
architectural design in spatial configuration, graphic
communication, and humanistic aspects of design.)
Position 2: Integrated Design
(upper-level design studios that incorporate social, technical and
environmental elements into architectural design.)
Successful candidates are expected to teach relevant courses in
analog and representational skills in digital media or in building
technology.
ResponsibilitiesThe primary responsibilities of the appointment
include teaching, research, and service. The successful candidates
for these positions will be able to teach undergraduate
architecture studios, lecture courses, and/or seminars/ workshops.
Candidates will be expected to develop and maintain an active
program of scholarly and creative work within the discipline. APLA
is particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the
diversity and excellence of the academic community through their
teaching, research, outreach, and service. Excellent interpersonal
skills are required. Salary will be commensurate with experience
and qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must hold a PhD, Master of Architecture, or a Bachelor
of Architecture plus a terminal degree in a related field, at the
time employment begins.
The candidates selected for these positions must be able to meet
eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time
of employment and continue working legally for the proposed term of

Desired Qualifications
Desired qualifications include: demonstrated ability to teach
design studio and related courses in a professional degree program,
evidence of outstanding design skills, evidence of
research/creative scholarship or the ability to develop and
maintain an active research/creative scholarly program, holding a
professional license in Architecture, or completion of the
experience requirements of the AXP program.
