Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Med Surg - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 11/24/2025 - Duration: 13 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, days - Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for Med/Surg positions in a Level II Trauma Center, requiring AL or compact licensure and recent Med/Surg experience with Cerner or Epic. Responsibilities - Work in a hospital setting across various Med/Surg units including General Surgery, Trauma, Neuroscience, Oncology, Orthopedics, Urology, and Clinical Decision Unit - Patient populations include general surgery, vascular, neuro (CVA, TBI, seizures), ortho, oncology, general Med/Surg, urology, and post-trauma - Patient ratios typically range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on unit - Tele monitoring performed by techs, but RNs are required to interpret and confirm telemetry strips every 4 hours - Uses Cerner EMR (preferred), Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors - Required to float between like units based on patient needs - Shifts available: 7a-7p and 7p-7a, scheduled in a 4-week cycle with no self-scheduling - Weekend rotation required: every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month - No on-call requirements - Responsibilities include wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG tubes, colostomy/ostomy care, and chemo administration if certified - Assignment to a home unit will be determined on the first day of orientation - Support staff includes CNAs, phlebotomists, IV/VAT team, and hospitalists - Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1 year receive 24 hours classroom and 24 hours unit orientation - Holiday coverage required per policy (one major and one minor seasonal holiday) - First-time travelers welcomed with required experience - No locals allowed within a 60-mile radius - Scrub color is flexible; any color permitted Requirements - Active AL or compact RN license - Basic Life Support (BLS) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications - At least 18 months of recent Med/Surg RN experience required - At least 1 year trauma/surgical experience required for trauma/surgical units - Tele experience preferred; ability to interpret telemetry required - Experience with Cerner or Epic EMR required - Perm staff must be gone for at least 6 months before returning as a traveler Benefits - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-626070.
