Job Description:
Burr & Forman LLP has an immediate opening in our Birmingham, AL
office for a full-time, experienced litigation paralegal for the
Labor and Employment Practice Group. This position requires
expertise in legal terminology, document preparation, and case
management, as well as familiarity with state and federal court
procedures. The paralegal will be responsible for drafting legal
documents, filing subpoenas, and conducting legal research while
maintaining strict timelines and deadlines. Strong communication
skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a
team are essential. The ideal candidate will also possess
proficiency in various legal software and tools to facilitate
efficient operations. KEY CONTRIBUTIONS Perform complex paralegal
duties requiring knowledge of legal terminology and legal processes
including case management from inception through discovery and
verdict. Draft and edit motions, briefs, pleadings, notices,
summaries, reports, correspondence, and similar documents. Prepare
and file briefs, pleadings, and other filings in state and federal
court and administrative agencies. Assist in the preparation of
materials, resources, and communications related to labor union
campaigns. Prepare discovery requests and responses and summarize
deposition transcripts; handle document productions. Prepare trial
exhibits, charts, notebooks, subpoenas, and provide other
assistance for trial preparation. Proofread and cite check briefs
and other legal documents. Create complex database for documents.
Prepare PowerPoint presentations. Plan and schedule conferences,
depositions, and/or meetings. Prepare for and/or attend
depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials. Conduct legal
research using a variety of resources such as library, Secretary of
State, PACER, SJIS, LEXIS, Internet, Autotrack, Alafile, etc. and
retrieve case law. Maintain and manage calendars for applicable
court deadlines, appearances, and other related deadlines. Respond
to inquiries for information. Other responsibilities as needed. THE
ESSENTIALS A bachelor’s degree, paralegal degree or certification,
and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Two
or more years of litigation experience required; experience in
employment law, labor union campaigns, and collective bargaining a
plus. Knowledge of Rules of Civil Procedures, state and federal
court procedures, and electronic filing. Proficiency with Microsoft
Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other document management
software required. Knowledge of e-discovery and Trial Director
required; Relativity helpful. Highly organized, detail oriented,
and proactive with a desire to take ownership as a contributing
member of the team. Balance competing priorities and work
effectively in a fast-paced environment, exercising patience and
professionalism during stressful situations. Strong communication
and drafting skills. Some overtime may be required. ADDITIONAL
