Responsibilities Work Location: Kinston, NC Key Accountabilities: Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing methods and quality engineering specifications and standards Reviews and approves engineering drawings and documents for part conformance and to assist in resolving part failure analysis for fabrication, assembly and in service problems Applies knowledge of aerospace mechanical/structural component fabrication and assembly processes and technologies to establish research and development strategies and plans Facilitates technology implementation in production and provides support to the user community Qualifications Requirements: Requires educational credentials meeting the Spirit classification standards for engineers and typically 2 to 4 years of experience in an engineering classification / position or a Master's degree with 0 to 2 years' experience in an engineering classification / position Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace, Composites, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering or other related course of study from an ABET accredited University Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Microsoft Office Experience reviewing and following test plans, creating planning documents for test execution, and overseeing the execution of test coupon fabrication Experience with aircraft manufacturing-related standards, Materials & Process, and/or Material Science Experience with standard parts components / electro-mechanical assemblies Specific Aircraft standard parts experience including: hydraulic fittings, electrical components, fasteners (nuts, bolts, rivets, pins, collars and washers), fittings, bushings, bearings, clips and electrical connectors.
